Plateau Assembly Member, Hon. Baba Hassan Condemns Appointment Of Management Committee Chairmen By Governor Lalong, Says Its Illegal, Undemocratic

The House Committee Chairman on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and Member representing Jos North North, who is a former Deputy Speaker, Plateau State House of Assembly, Hon Ibrahim Baba Hassan has condemned the appointment of management committee chairmen as Local Government adding that it is undemocratic to the current political government of All Progressive Congress, APC, in the state.

Hassan reiterated this during an interview with journalists at the plateau state House of Assembly on challenges of underdevelopment of the third tier of government in the country.

He said the House is now working on the bill as an arm of government; we are doing our best to ensure that all the laws are in place to conduct hitch free local government election which is at the committee level with various committees working hard to pass the 2017 budget into Law.

Hon Ibrahim baba Hassan who decried that the absence of elected officials as absence of democracy, said the action has brought about setback to the system, he added that he has submitted his findings before the honourable House which will be made public soon.

The former deputy speaker said that the executive rescue of Ambassador Governor Simon Bako Lalong has given them the matching order that all council chairmen should stay at the headquarters because recent information reveals that most LGA chairmen have abandon their people and are now in residing the state capital.

According to him, his committee is now working to ensure that all local government laws are in place including that of Plateau state independent electoral commission, PLASIEC, which its bill is currently underway.

He explained further that, he presented law on public procurement act that by next two, the law will pass through public hearing to get opinion of the general public to contribute all and to ensure that plateau people will vote wisely during the forthcoming Local government election.

Hassan who frowned at the appointment of management committee chairmen, said his emphasis is that election will be conducted and if someone wins, he or she will be declare winner without the result doctored or manipulated for selfish reasons.

Worried by the mass looting in the LGA system, he said as a lawmaker,  the House which he is a member, are currently working to ensure that it deliver on her campaign promises to the plateau people, he added.
