The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) Chairman, Plangji Daniel Cishak, has reaffirmed commitment that the fresh local government areas election is rescheduled to hold on the 1st Day of September, 2026, as the timetable was released ahead of time to notify the general public and the civil society.
Cishak made this known during a press conference held at PLASIEC headquarters on Friday, saying that the adjustments to the timetable for the 2026 Local Government Elections in Plateau State became mandatory.
He said that with the release of the LGAs ‘ timetable for the conduct of fresh elections into the state chapter of chairmanship and the councillorship, he reminded the eligible indigents of the collection of their PVCs that the exercise will end in March 2026.
According to him, the polling deadline for councillorship and chairmanship remains on September 1, 2026, and he solicited the cooperation of all the relevant stakeholders for a peaceful election.
The PLASIEC Chairman read out the election guidelines, outlining the legal, administrative, and operational procedures aimed at ensuring a credible, inclusive, and well-coordinated exercise.
He maintained that, “The adjustments are strictly guided by the commission commitment towards transparency, excellence, and stakeholders, inclusiveness,” when all updates on the schedule team work were disclosed.
The Commission had initially issued a Notice of Election in September 2025, marking the beginning of activities for the 2026 Local Government Elections.
PLASIEC emphasized that the reviewed timetable should ensure a smooth electoral process, but did not specify.
The Commission urged stakeholders to take note of the updates and cooperate to guarantee a successful election.
The press briefing was attended by representatives of political parties, civil society organizations, security agencies, and the media.
