Pharmacists Council of Nigeria to sealed unregistered Patent Medicine Shops in Bauchi

The Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN)  to sealed all unregistered Patent Medicine Shops in Bauchi state.

The Task Force Committee Chairman, Patent and Proprietors Vendors license Inspection Committee in Bauchi Pharmacists Abdu Sule, disclosed this yesterday while inspecting premises and shops of Patent Medicine Premises  in Bauchi, saying that we have over  2000 medicine shops in Bauchi and only 30% are genuinely registered that is to say over 1600 patent are not registered in Bauchi metropolis alone not to talk of other local government Areas.

The Committee Chairman who was represented by the Chairman the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) Bauchi state Pharmacists Jibrin Aliyu Tafida said drugs business should be regulated and be orderly.

“we want to be sure all those in the business or operating patent medicine stores are dully registered because we are regulatory body we will not allowed things to go astray” He said

Abdu Sule said “Nobody is allowed to operate if he is  not registered so if visit your premises and found out that you are not registered we sealed your shop you can see the number of shops visited and the number sealed, if we are done  with the state capital we will be going to the  local government areas  for same inspection”

Sule stressed that the exercise was a continuous process mainly to monitor encourage the practitioners by doing the right thing, he however stressed that serious offenders would be prosecuted.

‘’The essence of this is to encourage and monitor them on a continuous basis, some of them have been warned before, there is nothing punitive about it, we are just trying to encourage them to do the right thing, however those with serious offences would not be spared,’’ He said

Also speaking the State officer Pharmacists Council of Nigeria, Pharmacists Bakwa Nenlep said we are out for the inspection to sensitise the vendors on how to run the business in the state.

“We understand many want to go in to the business without following the right channel of the business, that is why you see the illicit drugs sells and  wrong used of drugs, that doesn’t mean  the council is not doing it job, that is why you can see we bring in all those responsible to enforce and  encourage the patent medicine dealers to registered with the council” he said
