Palm Sunday Killings : Plateau Our Heritage Revival Initiative (Pohri) Urges Security To Be More Proactive And Decisive
Yakubu Busari
Following the gruesome attack by armed terrorists on innocent citizens in Angwan Rukuba of Jos North Local Government Area, which led to the tragic loss of scores of lives, the Plateau Our Heritage Revival Initiative (POHRI) calls on the Nigerian Military and other sister security agencies to adopt a more proactive, intelligence-driven, and decisive approach in dealing with perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
In a statement made available to this medium by Hon. Alex Kwapnoe Chairman, POHri, and Friday Bako Secretary, POHri in Jos .
We condemn in the strongest possible terms this barbaric and inhuman act. The senseless killing of defenseless citizens is unacceptable and must not be allowed to continue with impunity.
We demand the immediate and speedy arrest of all those responsible, as well as their prosecution in accordance with the law.
It is deeply troubling that such a large-scale attack could be carried out without timely interception by security agencies.
While we acknowledge the efforts of the Nigerian Military in preventing further escalation, we express serious concern over the apparent lapses in response that could have otherwise minimised casualties and prevented the magnitude of this tragedy.
We wish to state unequivocally that prior threats allegedly issued by certain individuals were not given the necessary attention.
The eventual execution of these threats underscores a worrying gap in intelligence utilization and response coordination.
We therefore call on all institutions constitutionally mandated to safeguard lives and property to urgently redouble their efforts.
There is a pressing need for deliberate, coordinated, and sustainable security strategies to effectively confront and dismantle the network of terrorists and criminal elements threatening Plateau State and the nation at large.
The recurring attacks across Barkin Ladi, Riyom, Kanam, Mangu, Bokkos, and Wase Local Government Areas are clear indications that the current security architecture requires urgent review and strengthening.
The persistence of these attacks, despite warnings and intelligence reports, raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of existing measures.
If the government is truly committed to ending insecurity, then a comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s security framework is imperative, with clear focus on prevention, rapid response, intelligence gathering, and accountability.
We commend the Executive Governor of Plateau State for his prompt visit to the affected community to commiserate with victims and assess the situation firsthand.
We, however, urge the Governor to further strengthen and empower Operation Rainbow to enhance its operational capacity and responsiveness.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to families who lost their loved ones and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured.
We also call on citizens to remain vigilant, cooperate with security agencies, and take necessary precautions to safeguard their communities.
We stand in solidarity with the Government and people of Plateau State at this difficult time and pray for lasting peace, security, and stability across the State and the nation.
