Overloading: NURTW To Sanction Drivers, Fault Passengers

The National Union of Road Transport Workers, Nasarawa State Branch has promised to sanctioned drivers carrying overloading in the state.

 

The state Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Adamu gave the disclosure during an exclusive interview with selected Journalists at the state headquarters of the Association.

 

The Chairman who serves as the zonal Chairman zone 4 faulted passengers for supporting overloading.

 

Saying stiff penalty awaits those found wanting, he further buttressed that NURTW has constituted a committee to checkmate overloading in the state.

 

He also cautioned drivers on over-speeding, especially during the rainy season to have a rethink to avoid the loss of lives.

 

The State Chairman while speaking on the use of passengers manifest declared that the Union in the State is mindful of lives and properties of passengers by using passengers manifest for passengers going on a long journey.

 

According to the Chairman, Alhaji Salihu Adamu said the leadership at the headquarters is paying a certain percentage to drivers whose legs were amputated in an accident.

 

While reeling out his progress report, The Chairman explained that his administration focused his searchlight on the welfare of drivers and all its members.

 

He also revealed some of the nagging challenges of the Union to include competition between NURTW, National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and Road Transport Employees (RTE) taking over the duty of NURTW.

 

“Though in Nasarawa State we are on top of the situation”.

 

On the infiltration of motors in Nasarawa State, The Chairman guarantee that only the certified site only recognizes for operation.

 

“With the ongoing New Bus Terminal along Jos road if completed it would be dedicated to those plying Northern Nigeria while the old park would be used for those going to Eastern part of the country”.

 

He explained that plan is underway for the Union to acquire it own plot of land where it will build a befitting park with a filling station.

 

Alhaji Salihu Adamu commended Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule for supporting the Union as well for the award of contract for the construction of “The state of the art Bus Terminal in Lafia and Karu, the gateway to the Federal Capital Territory.
