Over 21,452 Jostle For 1,000 Rural Teaching Jobs In Nasarawa

Rabiu Omaku

No fewer than 21,452 teachers certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria have applied for 1,000 rural teaching positions recently announced by the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education, NSUBEB.

The Executive Chairman of NSUBEB, Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, made this disclosure in Abuja on Thursday, following a national stakeholders dialogue on the review of the accelerated basic education curriculum.

According to him, the recruitment exercise has been extended by a week, due to the inability of some qualified applicants to apply.

He explained that while over 21,452 applications had been received across the state, numerous complaints were received regarding applicants’ inability to apply due to the short notice of the application deadline on the portal.

The NSUBEB Chairman advised qualified applicants to utilize the extended timeframe to apply, to ensure that the best candidates are shortlisted, noting that the recruitment is primarily for rural teachers and successful applicants will be posted to rural areas.

He cautioned that those unwilling to teach in rural areas should reconsider applying, as postings will only be made to rural areas.

Dr. Kassim assured that the board under his leadership will strive to ensure that a qualified candidate, irrespective of background, secures employment without necessitating a godfather.

The National Stakeholders Dialogue Meeting on the Review of Accelerated Basic Education Curriculum was organized in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, TRCN, the Universal Basic Education Commission, and other stakeholders in the basic education sector.
