Osun NSCDC Arraigns Six Suspects Over Alleged Assault On Personnel

Six individuals have been brought before am Osogbo Chief Magistrate Court following an alleged attack on personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, during an official assignment in the state.

The defendants were arraigned by the Osun State Command of the corps over accusations of conspiracy, obstruction of lawful duty, and assault on public officers performing their responsibilities.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in Gbongan when NSCDC personnel were conducting routine patrols aimed at safeguarding critical national assets and infrastructure across the state.

During the operation, officers reportedly intercepted a tanker and instructed the driver to halt for verification as part of standard security procedures.

The suspects, identified as residents of Ogun and Lagos states, were subsequently arrested and charged before the court.

The Corps told the court that the suspects, who were occupants of the vehicle, allegedly resisted the directive, leading to a confrontation with the officers.

It was alleged that one of the defendants poured water on an officer, an action said to have triggered a wider altercation between the group and the security personnel.

The prosecution stated that the confrontation escalated into physical violence, resulting in injuries sustained by members of the corps while carrying out their lawful duties.

The Chief Magistrate ordered that the defendants be remanded in custody and adjourned the case until 31 March 2026 for further proceedings, while the NSCDC urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and report suspicious activities.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke, on Thursday, the State Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo, condemned the incident and described the alleged actions as unacceptable.

“The Corps will not tolerate any form of attack on its personnel or obstruction of its lawful duties,” Igbalawole said.

He added that “individuals found culpable of such offences would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.”
