There are strong indications that top officials of Oyetola administration held an emergency meeting over recent debt disclosure on how to manage the negative fallouts and shift the blame and focus on targets other than Mr Gboyega Oyetola.
At a meeting of the group held at a private residence in Ikeja, Lagos on Saturday, it was revealed that series of plans were mapped out, the major item being the sponsorship of diversionary stories to cover up the raging controversy.
The first item according credible sources at the meeting was to allege a plot to take loans by the new administration as well as portray new rapport with the House of Assembly as a plea for approval of the loan.
The first fake news emananting from the meeting was to allege plans by Governor Ademola Adeleke to borrow N100 billion naira from commmercial banks.
The meeting also resolved to poison the emerging cordial relationship between Governor Adeleke and the State assembly by settling the rift between the.House and the former Governor.
The assembly had accused Mr Oyetola of neglecting the legislature throughout his four years in office, leading to lukewarm attitude of the House Speaker and others to the former Governor.
Mr Oyetola was particularly accused of denying the legislators their due rights even as he played the blind to issues of welfare. The Ikeja meeting reportedly signalled to the legislature the need to join hands with the past Governor despite the past of mistrust.
Checks showed that the signal was responsible for the decision of the House to intervene in the raging debt controversy. The decision has however created deep split within the legislature as some of them called attention to the culpability of the House in the approval for some of the loans.
” The House leadership is also sharply divided. The House acted like a rubber stamp, approving several loans. So some members felt the House is an interested party who cannot be trusted by the public to be impartial and balanced.”, a source at the Assembly said.
Speaking with journalists at Osogbo this evening, the Spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke who said Mr Oyetola and his team are in disarray over the debt disclosure, called the fake news ” a product of minds reeling in public opprobrium and spreading anger among the populace.
” We know the Oyetola team has been in trouble since Thursday when Governor Adeleke opened the state’s debt profile to the public. The pressure was so much on the past Governor that he and his team had to admit that truly the state owes so much. The past administration proceeded further to accept that N18 billion loan was taken after July 16 election.
“Oyetola team has been emphasising that it did not take commercial loans but a loan is a loan, whether from Federal Government or from non-commercial banking institutions. The past Governor also faces harsh criticism from Osun people for not disclosing the state’s debt status until the People’s Governor acted in public interest.
” Osun people are also curious that Oyetola administration made no disclosure about contractor related debt arising from his alternative project financing policy. Our administration is compiling the contractual debt hidden from the people and due disclosure will soon be made.
” It is important to clarifies that the Adeleke administration has no plan to borrow any fund. We are not a government of deceit, lies and propaganda. This is a government of accountability and transparency. Those used to secretive pillaging of state resources cannot understand how the new government wants to succeed without borrowing legitimately or otherwise. Because they know how deep the rot they left behind, they are puzzled how the new government will wriggle out of the well laid financial traps.
” Kindly help us tell Osun people that Governor Adeleke will run the state transparently, will deliver on his five point agenda and will lay sustainable foundation for good governance in Osun state. Our people should also focus on the goal of democratic dividends. They should ignore men of yesterday”, the Spokesperson noted.
