Osun 2022: Unease For Dotun Babayemi As Brother Allegedly Turndown ‘Outrageous’ Primary Budget

Prince Dotun Babayemi, a governorship hopeful on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), may see his chance to pick the Party’s ticket slip away as his younger brother is not willing to foot the bill for the exercise.

Babayemi, who is one of the six aspirants jostling for the PDP ticket for the Osun governorship election, was confronted with a blistering blow to his aspiration when his brother pointedly refused to make a commitment to bear the cost of prosecuting the primary.

The development, a source that is in the know informed this paper, rattled Babayemi, who did almost everything to persuade his brother of his chance in getting PDP ticket all to no avail.

According to the source, Babayemi met his brother in Lagos to review progress on his governorship pursuit and also present a proposal on what would be needed to get delegates for the primary. But what followed was not what Babayemi expected as his brother turndown the budget as outrageous.

“His brother is his main financier. Dotun is not the rich man all of you think he is. Anyone who knows Dotun (Babayemi) well will realize how much his brother is supportive to him in anything he ventures into, and that was why his reluctance on this governorship project is confounding,” the source who is close to the family noted.

“Not that he doesn’t want Dotun (Babayemi) to be Governor but feels the time was not ripe and that he is careful not to be swayed by the cheap promises made to his elder brother.

“At a point in the meeting, he asked him if he can guarantee that those on his side can deliver delegates that will give him the ticket. But Dotun (Babayemi) countenance afterward was not assuring and that reinforced the fear of his brother,” he added.

Reports indicated that the brother had earlier commissioned an independent report which confirmed that the Adeleke group is indeed far entrenched than all other aspirants in the state. The report also showed that Dotun cannot even place fourth if a primary is to be held today.

It was not clear how the meeting between Dotun and his brother ended but the report raised questions about the financial capability of Babayemi .

The Gbongan Prince who defected to PDP only recently was always portrayed as a billionaire before this revelation about his brother.
