Osinabjo To Declare Delta At 25 Economic/Investment Summit Open

President Yemi Osinbajo, will on Friday, August 26, 2016 declare open the Delta State Economic and Investment Summit in Asaba as part of activities lined up to mark 25 years of the state’s existence.

This was disclosed by Mr. Patrick Ukah, Commissioner for Information, Delta State at a press briefing to signal the commencement of activities lined up to celebrate the event shortly after the State Executive Council meeting in Asaba presided over by Senator  Ifeanyi Okowa., Governor of Delta State.

According to Mr. Ukah, “during the State Executive Council meeting, we were briefed about the activities marking the 25th anniversary of the state creation, which has as its major event, an Economic and Investment Summit which will hold on Friday the 26th of August, 2016.

The Summit is purely private sector-driven and we have been able to realize good sums of money to sponsor the event as we will work with what we have.

The celebration commenced on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 with the state’s First Lady, Dame Edith Okowa hosting children and the less privileged to a party”.

He also disclosed that a Cultural Festival to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the state would hold on Thursday, August 25, 2016 and a Gala-Night on Friday, where awards would be given to prominent Deltans who have contributed their quota to the growth and development of the state/country adding that, the new brand of the state logo would be unveiled on Saturday, August 26, 2016, while a thanksgiving service will hold on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at St. Philip’s Anglican Church, Asaba.

The Commissioner for Information who was flanked by Chief George Orogun, Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor also said that the construction of Ubeji Access road to Trans-Warri Junction in Warri South Local Government Area was approved by the Executive Council just as the Council also revoked the contract for the completion of the Ekakpamre/Usiefurun/Orhuwhorun Road in Ughelli South Local Government Area.

Speaking on the burning issue of the recent outbreak of Lassa Fever in the state, Mr. Ukah stated Governor Okowa’s administration has taken proactive measures through the Ministry of Health, Environment and Waste Management Board to ensure that Deltans were effectively sensitized on the need to keep their environment clean and imbibe the culture of regular hand washing to prevent infection.

He added that 40 persons who had contact with the victim of the disease have been placed under surveillance adding that the medical doctor would be buried this weekend under the supervision of World Health Organization (W.H.O.) officials.
