The Commandant Operations Safe Heaven, OPS, , Major General Augustine Agundu has linked the secrets behind the incessant killingsand cattle rustling in some parts of Plateau state to criminality, political,economic and land dispute.

He pledged his commitment toward preparing the Plateau Youth to shun restiveness and focus more on healthy competition that can promote peaceful coexistence.

General Agundu disclosed this during a meeting held at the Hill Station Hotel by OPS in collaboration with civil-military relief initiative organizers Plateau Youth summit.

Agundu disclosed that his six months posting to Plateau state has opened his eyes to see that the state had been a secret breeding ground for crime; we all have our duty to build confidence and forgiveness and guide ourselves against comments capable of bringing about disunity.

He said the aim of the summit is to reorganizing the potentials of Plateau youth for positive impact and to acknowledge the contributions of youth in the social development of the society.

According to him, we are all celebrating the same course but we want all of you to realize that Plateau state can be taken to a greater height but the spirit of destruction will not help us.

Agundu applauded those youth who participated actively in the sanitation cleaning exercise including the interfaith competition held to promote peaceful coexistence between the two dominant religions.

He lamented that most of the youth use their telephones to propagate and promote hate speeches, of recent there is no cattle rustling but what we all experience now is both collaborations to steal cows and pretend they are not responsible to the act.

The Army General said, “we should stop this narrative of Muslim or Christian are the one but all the tribes are involved because 45 % of the population of the Plateau state citizens are the youth so we are preparing you to take over the mantle of leadership.

He maintained that the Plateau killings can stop if all of us agree to end this hate speech; we come here to understand each other and buried the past and build peace because all us are agents of change.
