Okowa Moves To Recover Government Vehicles From Past Political Office Holders

In a desperate move to make government officials accountable, Delta State Commissioner for Transport, Mr. Vincent Uduaghan, Wednesday, pledged to recover all government vehicles from past political office holders and their cronies in the state.

Udughan who made the pledge on resumption, alleged that some of the vehicles either have their plate numbers changed or engine number tampered with. He said the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s administration was out to bring sanity to governance.

He stressed his readiness to re-activate the Delta State Urban Mass Transit Scheme in line with the policy direction on transport of the state government, adding that “immediate steps must be taken to address all issues affecting the scheme”.

The commissioner who inspected government Buses and Heavy Duty Trucks and Towing Vans procured by the previous administration, said it was sad to see the Buses, Trucks and Towing vans not being in operations.

He said for the thinking of the present administration led by Senator Ifeanyi Okowa in the transport sector to come to fruition, certain steps must be taken to address all the setbacks observed in the system for the good of the scheme and benefit of Deltans.

Uduaghan pointed out that most of the operators of the scheme were not keeping to the contractual agreement entered into with the state government, maintaining that such act could not be allowed to continue for the sake of the scheme and the drive for enhanced Internally Generated Revenue of the state.

He frowned at the traffic situation in some urban areas across the state, attributing the development to too much indiscipline on the roads, including the turning of every major road junctions to motor parks by commercial vehicles and tricycles operators in the state.

Uduaghan had met with management of the ministry upon resumption as well as tour the various offices in the ministry where he observed that most of the staff were yet to come to terms with the present realities.
