Mass defection hit Delta State’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and all members of the party defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made on Wednesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital, by Senator James Manager, shortly after a high-level closed-door meeting held at the Government House in Asaba on Wednesday.
According to Manager stated, “All PDP members in the state, including the governor, former Governor Okowa, the Speaker, the state party chairman, all the local government chairmen and others, have agreed to move to the APC.
“We cannot continue to be in a sinking boat.”
The development was said to have come after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development.”
