- Command Vows To Curb Crime
The leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, led by the Imo State Chairman, Hon.Comr.Ukenga Samuel Udeh, (Ezeumuokorobia) was on Wednesday, Oct.6th 2021, as part of strengthening the security of lives and property(s) of the people of the state, held a one-day- interactive session with the Nigerian Police Command in Owerri.
The gathering sorts attracted so many security experts from across the 27 LGA’s of the state which involved all the Divisional Police Officers, DPO’s, some highly respected Security Consultants and some critical stakeholders of the union.
It has been recorded that the meeting was successfully held at the Imo Police Officers’ Mess Owerri, where both the Police personnels and the unionists collectively agreed to partner in all bids towards the combats against crime and insecurity in the state.
Speaking, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Rabiu Hussaini, psc, commended the good people of the state for their unalloyed support to the Command on their ceaseless fight against insecurity and enjoined the members of NURTW in Imo State to work in partnership with the Police.
CP Rabiu Hussaini, therefore assured effective security synergy with the union and promised to reposition the state for good and rapid economic development.
The Imo CP warned that any attempt to thwart efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the state would not be condoled.
According to the CP, “NURTW members are critical stakeholders in our efforts to rid the state of all forms of crime and criminality and are willing to partner with your union to restore normalcy and peace in the state.”
He further enjoined the road workers, commercial drivers, and associates to avail the police of useful information that would help to reduce crime and criminality in the state.
CP Hassuini, disclosed that his Command will like to work in synergy with NURTW. Those in the rural areas should always liaise with their DPOs. We need you to provide us with useful information to work with. We are also going to provide police visibility in all your parks so that at all times, you can engage them to help you address criminal issues”.
“For instance when you notice anything fishy or encounter a criminal case, you can reach out to my men around to apprehend the suspects. We all need ourselves to achieve a crime-free Imo and I will be counting on your support in this regard”, CP Hassuini submitted.
Adding his voice, the DSC of Imo Police Command, Mr.Chinedu Okoh, expressed satisfaction with the leadership of the Imo NURTW under the watch of the State Chairman, Hon.Samuel Udeh, and charged the union to work in synergy with the Security Agencies in Imo.
DSC Okoh, therefore warned those causing mayhems and disruption of peace in Imo State to vacate from the state, added that the Command would not allow them to further display their ugly and unlawful activities in the state.
He moreso called on the members of the union to desist from any action that may cause harm to the society, even as he appealed for tranquility amongst the unionists and their operations.
Meanwhile, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Hon.Samuel Udeh, who spoke to newsmen shortly after the interactive session with the Police authority, expressed satisfaction to associate with the Police in Imo.
“In the past, people usually tagged our union members as touts. Those days are gone and history. We are now refined unionists poised to make positive changes in society. We shall continue to work together to uplift the state.
Responding to questions from the press, the Imo NURTW Chairman, Ezeumuokorobia, answered,” We have a simple assignment to ensure peace and assist the Police and other Security Agencies in the state in the fight against insecurity”.
“It is our collective efforts to restore sanity in Imo. We are hereby calling for all hands to be on deck in combat against criminality. We are trying to make sure that crime is ejected from society. Imo belongs to all of us. We are working to ensure that a permanent stop to crime. On daily basis, we are sanitizing the transportation system in the state, of course, sanity is our watchword and we are ever ready and poised to better the state”, Udeh meant.
Finally, the Imo NURTW Boss, Ezeumuokorobia, called on Imolites to support the Shared Prosperity Government of Sen.Hope Uzodinma.
In his comments, the Imo NURTW Chief Security Consultant, Chief Vitalis Onugha, thanked the CP and the men of the Imo Police Command for honouring the members of Imo NURTW.
Chief Onugha, assured that the union of members is ever ready, set, and willing to partner with the Police.
