On Thursday, October.28th 2021, some stranded and helpless members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Imo State Chapter, who were illegally and forcefully removed from the past government of the union was officially reinstated into the union as part of restoring lost unity and safety of members.

That singular action of the Chairman triggered jubilation galore amongst members who in their large numbers collectively commended the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Hon.Comr.Samuel Udeh (Ezeumuokorobia) for his doggedness, large heart, and passion for service to humanity.

It could be recalled that some members of the Old SAC over the years have been suffering at the hands of their apex leaders who sacked them from the union due to one thing or the other.

The NURTW Chairman Udeh, in his wisdom, deemed it fit and apt to ensure the successful reinstatement of those sacked union members.

Their immediate reinstatement came via the order of the Union Chairman, Hon. Udeh during the State Administrative Council (SAC) meeting held in Owerri.

Speaking, the Union Chairman in Imo, Hon.Udeh appealed to all the members of the Imo NURTW Old SAC to work together to promote peace, development, and unity.

He noted that his bid towards the formation of the New SAC remains pending till further notice.

Addressing the nation members, Udeh charged them to constructively criticize him, especially when he is not getting it right.

“Look into my eye-ball and tell me openly whenever I am wrong. The union is not my father’s heritage nor my own right, be sincere and objective to guide my paths as your union chairman. Think of growing the union. It is our own union. Let us make our union strong and formidable. The era of touting is history. We are professionals as it concerns road businesses. I believe in the division of labor. Let all hands be on deck. Now is forward ever, backward never under my watch “, Ezeumuokorobia assured.

On the issue of sanity, Udeh pointed out that the union is set and ready to clamp illegal motor parks, even as he frowned against the indiscriminate loading, parking, and off-loading of goods, services, and passengers along Douglas Road Owerri.

“I am very committed to ensuring that there is free-flow of traffics along Douglas Road, Ama-JK, Mbaise Road down to Ama-Hausa axis and other parts of the major roads in Owerri Metropolis. We shall soon commence on the making/approval of official bus stops in Owerri Municipality. We are coming up with sensitization,  awareness, and campaigns for the effective reorientation of all the commuters, pedestrians, and other road users in Imo”, Ezeumuokorobia hinted.

In his words, the Imo NURTW State Chairman, Udeh, revealed that his leadership is planning to initiate stringent implementation of Mobile Courts for traffic law offenders in the state, maintained that those apprehended must face the consequences from the Mobile Courts and shall face the law by going to jail or pay some huge amount of money as a penalty for defaulters.

According to him, ” The union in its plan has resolved to form an Emergency Taskforce so as to caution and checkmate traffic law defaulters in Owerri City Capital of the State”.

Udeh, however, reaffirmed his support, commitment, and passion to ensure the growth of the transportation system in Imo, but advised members to desist from any act capable of jeopardizing the success and unity of the union.

Highlights of the SAC meeting held in Owerri was the revelation on how to establish, resuscitate and inaugurate the leadership of Imo NURTW Women’s Wing, the future unveiling of uniform for all the Units Chairmen, Secretaries, Treasurers, and means of proper identification of members of the union.
