NULGE Drums Support For LG Autonomy In Nigeria By Yakubu Busari,Jos

The Chairman Nigerian Union of Local Government employees  (NULGLE),Plateau state branch , Comrade Samson Mafuyai has drummed support for the local government autonomy in Nigeria.


Samson stated this during a press conference held at the NUJ ,centre on Thursday.


He slammed  state Governors for siphoning the local government funds  in the name of joint account .

Mafuyai accused some group as enemies of this laudable and well-though project in their desperation saw the autonomy granted to local government as a threat to their selfish pursuits because they wine and dine on the resources meant for the ordinary Nigerians who dwell  in the rural communities.


He expresses  worried that state government have abandon the basic needs of its communities ,in terms of provision of portable drinking water, health care delivery services ,boosting of economic activities through the opening up of rural feeder roads and many more.


Mafuyai added that the local government autonomy is not all about the payment of salaries even though the Local government account for about 60% of the total workforce in this country of 774 LGs .


He lamented that  the critical look at the infrastructural deficit at the grassroots, calling on government to appreciate the yearning developmental gap that is confronting the people at the grassroots where they have been reduced to “hewers of wood and drawers of water”  is provoking rural-urban drift in search of unavailable white collar jobs with the attendance consequences of involving in crime and restiveness.

This medium leader calls on the state houses of assembly to join their voices with those of all other Nigerians by endorsing the bill on local government autonomy for progress and development, he said.



He pleaded with the media as unbiased umpires and respected practitioners in the country to support by adding their voices to their laudable drive and long walk to freedom .
