NSUBEB Revokes 36 Contracts, Govt To Use Big Stick On Defaulting Contractors-Executive Secretary

The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Board has given a marching order to all contractors handling Nsubeb contracts that did not meet up to the contractual agreement to make refund or face the full wrath of the law,

Yakubu Ahmed Ubangari disclosed this to selected Journalists in an interview in his office, the executive secretary said the projects were spread across all the 13 Local Government Areas and Development Areas.

According to him, he stated that the state government through the board has revoked the contracts after serving the contractors with several notices of warning to adhere strictly to the terms of agreement.

“Several notices of warning were served to defaulting construction firms to resume site and continue their work but they fail to resume work”.

The executive secretary expressed worried over the way and manner some projects were done up to 80 percent, some 60 percent, some 40 percent and some just 30 percent respectively but abandoned by the contractors.

“The position of the state government entails that the defaulters would have to refund the money already release to them from the board for those projects as soon as possible,” Ubangari explained.

He added that the Governor had recently paid N4.3 billion to Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) as its counterpart fund for the period of six years.

Ubangari disclosed that the N8.6 billon the state accessed from UBEC is to implement projects in order to actualize the objectives of basic education in the state.

“The process is already on and in no distant time we shall commence the formalities including award of contract to contractors,” he said.

He explained that since the state have not accessed it fund for a long time and now with this release a lot of work would soon commence.

He therefore said that as part of their plan in 2017, the board would also give priority to manpower development by building the capacity of teachers and other staffs for better service delivery.
