The Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr Kassim Muhammed Kassim has read the riot acts to the staff of the board for collecting money for promotion and retirement benefits
There is a fresh breeze as the new Executive Chairman has changed the narrative. A few months after taking over from his predecessor, he broke a long-standing jinx where primary school teachers in the State are compelled to pay a certain amount of money before they are promoted.
The payment also affects retirees, Dr Kassim stated this Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, when he received in his office members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT, Nasarawa State chapter, led by their chairman, Alhaji Isa Danmusa Mohammed, on a congratulatory visit.
The NSUBEB Chairman told them that promotion of teachers and payments of retirement benefits are legal and legitimate entitlements of teachers and should be given to them free, without compelling anybody to pay any penny.
Dr.Kassim frowned at the practice, saying that the tradition of teachers paying for promotion and retirement benefits has been there for over 40 years, as confirmed by the NUT leadership, but the NSUBEB boss insisted that under his watch, promotion and payment of retirement benefits of teachers will take place seamlessly.
Speaking earlier, the NUT chairman, Isa Danmusa Mohammed said they were in Dr Kassim’s office to congratulate him on his appointment as the new NSUBEB chairman.
