The Executive Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board, (NSUBEB) Dr Kassim Muh’d Kassim has approved the partnership with Nigerian Security and Civil Defense corps, NSCDC to provide adequate security to primary pupils and structures against kidnapping and vandalisation.
The Chairman made this known Wednesday July 9th 2025 at his office in Lafia when the Nasarawa State Commandant, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC Mohammed Kabir visited him.
Dr Kassim stated that the board has agreed to partner with the NSCDC under ‘The Safety School Program Unit” to protect primary school pupils from kidnapping and tackle burglary and vandalism in and around the school environment.
He said that the operations of the ‘Safety School Program Unit’ manned by officers of the NSCDC would ensure a more conducive academic atmosphere for teaching and non-teaching staff, school children and most importantly protect school structures which government spend huge amount of money to provide.
“Right now, we have mobilize contractors to various schools across the State to renovate our structures, build new ones and provide furnitures, we spend huge amount of money and will not allow criminals to vandalise these properties.
“I also want to appeal to the Commandant to intensify efforts to arrest this people buying vandalise school properties that they don’t know the source, if they are properly monitored and if possible arrested, those vandalizing school properties won’t have where to sell and vandalism of school properties will reduce drastically” he said
He said that the Abdullahi Sule administration was committed to sustaining a high standard of education in the State, adding that regular training and re-training of teachers had been taken with utmost priority to make them more efficient in the discharge of their duties.
Speaking earlier, the NSCDC State Commandant, Mohammed Kabir said he was at the board to congratulate the new chairman on his appointment and promised to partner with the board to protect primary school pupils and teachers from kidnapping as well as safeguard school structures from vandalism.
The Commandant said “we monitor schools through our “Safety School Program” operating in all States but our control unit is. located in our headquarters in Abuja, if Nasarawa State can queue into it to protect school children and infrastructures, we are ready to partner with you” he said
