Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule has revealed that plans are on the pipeline to recruit 4000 primary school teachers in no distance time.
The Governor stated this during this year’s World Teachers Day celebration, an occasion held at the famous Government Science Secondary School, Lafia.
Muhammed Gada, The Chairman of the State Teachers Service Commission who represented the State Governor affirmed that the effort to recruit 4000 primary school teachers was to block the gap in manpower deficit.
He said the State has made practical efforts to improve the infrastructural and human capacity development in the educational sector.
“This evident in the various infrastructural development of schools at all levels of education ranging from primary, Secondary and tertiary levels of education more teaching and nonteaching staff were employed to shore up the deficit of manpower”.
Engineer Sule said the State Government has reiterated it determination to enhance the standard of education, he added that the State Government had employed over 3000 with a plan to employ an additional 1000 in Secondary and tertiary institutions.
“These efforts are to ensure that we address the manpower deficit that threatened the pace of development in the education sector, On assumption of office in May 2019, This administration resuscitated the moribund Scholarship scheme to support deserving students studying in tertiary institutions at home and diaspora.
The Governor, however, added that the State Government would continue to sustain the policy of breeding human capital development needs for key technical skills for indigenous competence for Service delivery, especially in Science education, technology, and medical-related services to improve quality service delivery and economic growth.
Governor Sule buttressed that the State Government is committed to sustaining the school feeding programme at the primary school level meant for the wellbeing of pupils which was not only aimed to promote retention of vulnerable pupils but also to develop their mental wellness while learning in school.
Other remarkable achievements of the current administration in the State include the promotion of teachers and awaiting the implementation of the promotion exercise.
The Governor explained that the issue of harmonized retirement age for teachers in Nigeria in agreement with Act number 18 for 40 years in service and 65 years will be jointly looked into by the State Executive and Legislative arm for consideration.
“Nasarawa State is committed to being at par with other committed States in the implementation of policies and programmes in line with practice amongst the comity of nations and will surpass others.
The President of Nigeria Union of Teachers, Usman Mohammed in his remarks appreciated the State Government for the return of Teachers’ salaries to the Nasarawa State Basic Education Board.
He also sought for recruitment of more teachers to cover the gap as well as payment of professional allowances for deserving teachers.
The leadership also makes a case on the plot of land of NUT.
The president applauded Governor Abdullahi Sule for the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and promotions.
