NPFL Match Day 1: Nasarawa United Beat Visiting Abia Warriors

Host Nasarawa United Football Club of Lafia on Sunday beat visiting Abia Warriors of Umuahia 1-0 in their opening match of the abridged 2018/2019 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The match was played at the Lafia Township Stadium.

Reacting to the result, Abia Warriors’ coach Henry Makinwa said his team could not put up their best performance due to the unfavourable weather in first half of the encounter.

Makinwa however assured that his team would improve on their performance in subsequent matches.

“It is a very bad time for us, due to unfavorable weather in the 25 minutes of the first half, though they played very well. Luck was not on our side as we missed about nine goalscoring chances,” he said.

On his part, Bala Nikyu said he was pleased with the performance of his Nasarawa United players, even though he believed they should have put up a better performance.

Nikyu who was a former coach of Wikki Tourists FC of Bauchi described the three points won by his team as vital.
