Nonpayment of Local Government Workers Salary, Adamawa Assembly set up a committee

Adamawa state House of Assembly has constituted a seven-man Ad-hoc committee to look into the problem of non-payment of salaries in most Local Government Areas of the state.

The committee came up as a result of a motion moved by the Deputy Speaker, Mr Sunday Peter, under “Matter of Urgent Public Importance”.

Sunday Peter raised concern over non -payment of council staff, local health workers and teachers for several months, adding that as representatives of the people from the grassroots, the House needed to intervene in finding solution to the problem.

Other speakers at the Monday plenary including Mohammed Mahmud (APC-Mayo-Belwa), Emmanuel Tsamdu (PDP-Madagali), and Hassan Barguma (APC-Hong) lamented the plight of council workers and urged the House to intervene.

The House Speaker, Kabiru Mijinyawa, who presided over the plenary where a resolution was passed for an ad-hoc committee, constituted a seven member committee with the deputy speaker as chairman.

The committee is to submit its report in one week.

In a related development while the plenary was going on, the Governor of the state, Sen.Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla Bindow on a Popular Radio Hausa program as ” Taba kidi,taba karatu which it’s being presented by Kata Kore in Adamawa Broadcasting corporation (ABC) announced to the people of the state that the State Government will settle two months backlog  of Salaries with assurances of settling the other two months within the shortest possible time.

You can recall that the non- payment of the LGAs salaries has generated a lot of public discussion and heated debate in the state, where public analysts accused the Nigerian union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), of collaborating with the state Government on the failure of none payment of workers Salary.
