The President of Nigerian Medical Association,Dr Kayode Obembe has directed that no doctor should accept or collect any sack letter or sign any register opened by the government or her agents.
Obembe stated this to Journalists at Nigerian Bible Translation Trust (NBTT) Plateau state ,advised the government to ensure that all persons under survillance for. Ebola virus infection do not travel outside their domain of residence
He warned that for the avoidance of doubt, no medical doctor no matter how hungry ,should pick up any locum appointment with the government hospitals as directed by the circular,adding ,any doctor who flouts this directive ,does so at his /her own peril,all doctors are hereby directed to remain committed towards containing the Ebola outbreak.
Obembe condemned in totality the alleged Presidential directive via the federal ministry of Health suspending residency training programme in Nigeria.
Dr Obembe said NMA demands immediate withdrawal of the suspension circular and unconditional reinstatement of the so-called sacked residents doctors,stressing government should show commitment on her part in resolving the current impasse with the NMA rather than resorting to punitive measures that will only further aggravate the already deplorable situation.
He lamented government functionaries continue to enjoy medical services abroad at the expense of the tax payers money,where there are over 25,000 Nigerians specialists doctors in the USA and 4,000 in the UK driven away by government insensitivity .
Dr Pokop explained that our health facilities are in dilapidated conditions due to prolonged poor funding and incorrect policies by government .
The chairman Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) ,Plateau state branch Dr Bupwatda Pokop  has  inaugurated   fourteen man  adhoc committee on the control of Ebola virus .
Pokop advised the NMA committee    chairman  Dr Chingle Moses and his  secretary Dr Raphael Solomon to be responsive  in discharging their official function to bring about positive trust among the professional bodies and its stakeholders  in the state and the country at large .
He hinted that the committee set up is to institute disease surveillance with the collaboration of Plateau state government toward prevention, enlightenment of the general public on danger associated with Ebola virus.
Dr Pokop promised to produce     hand bills on how to sensitize the general public and also disseminate information that would help in taking strategic measure on how to prevent the spread of Ebola virus.
According to him, as long as this Ebola remains a threat we will continue to work together with Plateau state government 24 hours to ensure that it is no longer become a threat to lives of Nigerian.
