Nigeria’s security agents have rubbished the recent video purportedly “released” by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, accusing the sect of producing an amateur replica of Shekau to deceive the public. An analysis of the recent video of Shekau by the Department of State Security, DSS accused the sect of cloning everything about Shekau wrongly. The security analysis and Shekau’s picture has been obtained exclusivey by iReports-ng.com from a highly placed security source in Abuja today.
Shekau had on September 25 resurfaced barely one month after the Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in Borno state claimed he had died in a Cameroonian village after sustaining gunshot wounds in battles with security agents in a border town in Nigeria.
The JTF, had, announced Shekau’s death in a statement signed by its spokesman, Lt Col Sagir Musa on August 19. The JTF had then stated that Shekau “died of gunshot wound received in an encounter with the JTF troops in one of their camps at Sambisa Forest on 30 June 2013. Shekau was mortally wounded in the encounter and was sneaked into Amitchide, a border community in Cameroon, for treatment, which he never recovered. It is greatly believed that Shekau might have died between 25 July to 3 August 2013.”
However, the sect leader in a new video posted on the internet on September 25th put a lie to the JTF’s claim. Seated amidst gun-wielding guards who are all dressed in military camouflage, Shekau and his aides mocked the Nigerian military, President Goodluck Jonathan, American President Barack Obama and the French President Francois Hollande for their failed attempts to kill him.
According to him: “The world should know that I can not die, except by the will of Allah. I have told you that all that I do is prescribed by the Quran. The essence of it is to carry out the injunctions. Don’t bother yourselves stopping me because I cannot be stopped. The war is more grievous than you think, and it will consume you.
“I swear by Allah that there will be no democracy in Nigeria. We are going to rise against it and we shall soon defeat. The concept of government of the people by the people, for the people cannot continue to exist. It shall soon, very soon, be replaced by ‘Government of Allah, by Allah for Allah.
“It was said that I was killed, but here I am; I deliberately refused to respond on time; but here I am talking and laughing at Nigerian authority, who misled the world that I am dead. I believe by now Lt. Col Sagir Musa, who issued the statement of my death should bury his head in shame. President Jonathan should bury his head in shame. President Barrack Obama should bury his head in shame. President François Hollande should bury his head in shame.
“How shameful is it for Nigerian military for a man they called inconsequential to defeat them and seize their tankers and arms. We have celebrated our victory in Monguno, Benisheik and surrounding villages, and we shall not relent untill total victory comes our way, by Allah’s will.”
But in their analysis of the video, the DSS insisted that Shekau may have indeed died as earlier announced by the JTF. To back up their claim, the security agents argue that “Shekau in previous video appearances would start with a recitation of a full verse of the Quran that sometimes could last up to five minutes. The stand-in Shekau did not observe this sequence.
“Beside, in previous occasions when Shekau spoke, he had always never been interrupted by any background hail quite unlike what happened in the recent video.
“Watching the recent video, one would notice that the movement of the “Shekau’s lips” did not synchronise with the words as pronounced, apparently betraying a recorded message inefficiently manipulated to sustain a non-existent continuum in leadership, now in disarray. Even at that, his attempt to mimick Shekau voice during the opening stanza soon gave in, and the impostor reverted to his real voice. The intonation was different as well as the fact that Abubakar Shekau does not drag his voice.
“This “Shekau” even said that a dead woman -Margaret Thatcher, and Oladipo Diya rejoiced over his (“Shekau’s”) death. How did these add up to strengthen his case? One is dead and the other had left government long before the advent of Boko Haram.”
The security analysis concluded that “fact is Abubakar Shekau was shot, critically injured and evacuated by his lieutenants to a conventional hospital outside Nigeria as shown in the picture above”, stressing that “If he survived, time will tell.”
