In a series of coordinated operations under Operation DELTA SANITY, the Nigerian Navy has achieved significant successes against illegal refining activities.
On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda uncovered and deactivated nine interlinked illegal refining sites in Obe-Nla, a riverine community in Ilaje Local Government Area, Ondo State.
The sites were equipped with pumping machines, wooden boats, Jerrycans, and GP tanks containing a substantial quantity of stolen crude oil and illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO).
A day earlier, on Monday, January 6, 2025, FOB Bonny intercepted and seized a large wooden boat carrying several GP tanks used for siphoning crude oil from the ENANG C platform near the Iko general area in Akwa Ibom State.
Additionally, on the same day, Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Soroh discovered and dismantled another illegal refining site with several dug-out pits filled with stolen crude oil in Igbomotoru, Bayelsa State.
These operations, the military said, underscored the Nigerian Navy’s ongoing commitment to curbing illegal oil refining and protecting the nation’s resources.
