Nigerian Girl Guides Association Concludes Her 2 Days Eastern Zonal Meeting In Owerri

The leadership, management and authority of the “Nigerian Girl Guides Association, NGGA”,was at the last weekend officially concluded her two days (2 days) Eastern Zonal Meeting in Owerri, the capital of Imo State in a grand style.

The Eastern Zonal Meeting of NGGA took place at Goshen Retreat Center New Owerri Area of Imo State, and attracted all the duly registered members of the association  who stormed the state from 8th to 9th Feb.2019.

The Imo State Chapter of the  Nigerian Girl Guides Association, played host of the  Eastern Zonal Meeting that brought all the  entire members of the body from across the nine (9) Eastern States which included Imo  as the host, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, Abia,  Akwa- Ibom, Cross Rivers, Rivers and Bayelsa.

Speaking to journalists, the Deputy Chief Commissioner Zone A (SouthEast and SouthSouth), Dr.Mrs.Nene O.Iroakasi, expressed satisfaction on the outcome of the 2 day meeting, which according to the commissioner offered the members several opportunities that allowed them as they joyfully interacted and interfaced on the way forward for the association and society at large.

The NGGA SE,SS Deputy Commissioner,Dr.Iroakasi,who is from Abia State said they came to Imo State for the meeting which she disclosed was the turn of Imo to host in accordance with the rotational pattern of their zonal meetings.

” NGGA is well known all over the world and it was formed as a national guiding organization of Nigeria,and at the moment covering over 113,726 as members in the country for girls and young women and also train them in leadership and citizenship responsibilities. We have a lot of projects bordering the Sustainable Development Goals,SDG.  We are recognised in over 150 countries of the world”,she noted.

The Deputy Commissioner of Zone A however acknowledged that it is her function and duties to prescribe issues and reports to the national.

“We have 3 zones in Nigeria which comprises of Zone A ( SouthEast,SouthSouth),Zone B (Western Nigeria) and Zone C ( Northern Nigeria) which described as Zones ABC.

She said guiding is not religious rather it accommodate every religion even as she recalled “Voices Against Violence,VAO,as one their programmes aimed and targeted at combating against all forms of domestic violence in every ramifications.

“We have noticed that many girls are dying in silence due to sexual abuses. We  also have confidence that NGGA as a body would prevail through what she described as Action in Body Confidence,ABC,so as to add value themselves,to desist from prostitution and other social vices amongst the women folks,but our main mission is the ability of the girl-child to reach her potentials”,she noted.

“Our challenges are enormous but we need funding,logistics from the govt.and well meaning Imolites and Nigerians. We are calling on the govt.to revisit NGGA in the area of  sub-vention and subsidies like in the past. We are poised to catch them (girl-child) young”,Dr.Iroakasi appealed.

She further wished all the members of NGGA who came to the meeting from far and near safety and journey mercies to their various destinations, even as she prayed God to guide and protect the leadership of NGGA.

The Deputy Commissioner of the SS, SE however enjoined the media to always project and propagates the activities of NGGA.
