Valery Karpin’s side took the lead in the 27th minute after Semi Ajayi diverted the ball into his own net.
Lazio midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru missed a glorious chance to equalise for the visitors firing directly at the goalkeeper when he was put through on goal by Frank Onyeka.
The pattern of play continued after the break with the Russians threatening to double their lead.
Substitute Tolu Arokodare equalised for Nigeria 19 minutes from time.
Arokodare profited from Matvei Safonov’s error to slot the ball home.
Russia had chances to win the game but brave goalkeeping from Maduka Okoye and poor finishing ensure the game ended in a draw.
