NEMA Trains 5,000 Youth In North Central On Disaster Management

The Zonal coordinator of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) in charge of North Central Muhammed Badamasi Abdulsalam has trained over 5,000 youths on disaster prevention and management in flood threatened communities.

Abdulsalam lamented the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in areas where drainage passes through during the rainy season by blocking it completely.

He called on some residents of   Plateau state to take proactive measures toward the prevention, especially people living within Jos metropolis namely, Rikkos, Dilimi, which settlement it’s along river Dilimi.

The North Central Coordinator of NEMA said  this  on Monday while declaring  the workshop open during the  training  of the youths  in the affected communities.

Abdulsalam warned people against building houses on waterways that would always lead to loss of lives and properties.

He said that NEMA have trained the first batch of youths in Rikkos and have donated some equipment for them to use in the prevention of flood disaster.

Abdulsalam pointed out that the second batch of disaster management team is undergoing   training in Dilimi which include youths from 11 communities in the state.

The NEMA boss explained further that their next plan of action is to move down to the southern part of Plateau state where the flood had destroyed farmland and crops worth millions of Naira in 6 local government areas.

The coordinator urged the people of Nigeria to pay attention to government advice on early warning and preventive method.
