National Film And Video Censor Board Introduces Templates Of Censorship To Replace Obsoletes Laws For Nigeria Film Industry

The Director General National Film &Video Censors Board, Mrs. Patricia Bala has said the two days conference is to set templates on perspectives, practical understanding towards improving censorship classification in Africa.

Speaking during the two days conference held at Crest hotel in Jos north local government area of plateau state, Mrs. Bala disclosed that the main objective is to explore ways to deploy hands on techniques to improve movie censorship criteria and classification standards in Nigeria both as cultural product and an enterprise by so doing will help project the country identity as well be in line with global practices.

She emphasized that it’s not a sprint race or for that matter, a race of any sort because no country or society is on this race on its own terms in accordance with its own conditions.

Bala revealed further that many African countries are experiencing a surge in their movie industries drawing on the pioneering movie making revolution of the Nigerian industry commonly called Nollywood.

She condemned that no society has the right to dictate to another what should inform its censorship criteria, on the other contradictory hand they have promote artists freedom and expression.

Mrs Bala lamented that the major problem facing the NFVCB in Africa has to do with non-compliance and most of the Nigerian firms are not censorship.

Governor Simon’s Lalong applauded the organizer of the international conference on film censorship with theme, leveraging on institutional collaboration, model for improved standards and social inclusion in an open society”.

Lalong was represented by the commissioner information and communication, stressed that peace has return to plateau state ,five years ago movement of people was under restrictions where some session of tribes, religion cannot entered a particular community but since Lalong government came there is peace freedom of expression.

He congregated the citizens of the state  for given peace a chance but warm against some viewing centres exposing minor to pornographic firms which exposed them to all social vices.

Lalong threatened to use stiff penalty on any viewing centres that involved in showing sex’s videos in the state.
