Nasarawa State Ministry of Health Closes Down 84 Illegal Hospitals/Clinics

The Director Clinical Services, Nasarawa State Ministry of Health, Dr.Haruna Ekon has expressed concerned over the increase in number of illegal health facilities in Karu the Gateway to the Federal Capital Territory, as he called on government at all levels to assist in curbing  the situation.

The Director Clinical Services said the situation if not tackled with urgency would spell doom for the growing population which he maintained falls victims of circumstances.

Dr.Haruna further stated that 84 illegal health facilities ranging from hospital and private clinics which he added potent danger to patients.

“2017 the inspection team clampdown 84 illegal health facilities in Karu Local Government alone.

“Karu is a dumping ground for all sorts of doctors, calling on the Nigeria Medical Association to ensure the speedy assent of the State Health Insurance Scheme.

“Majority of the hospitals and clinics shutdown have peculiar problem to operate”.

He attributed the rising spate of quacks infiltrating the medical field to system failure.

“Even the license doctors are a constraint to the system because the registered practitioners also assist quacks in one way or the other”.

Haruna attributed lack of funds to the fight against quackery in the state.

“2015 and 2016 no funds were released to the inspection team WHO IS a QUACK DOCTOR?

The further explained that a professional doctor without practicing license is a quack.

A doctor not having the requisite qualification

A professional doctor working for nonprofessional doctor is a quack

A professional doctor not having human relation is a killer Doctor.

The Chairman of the Association,Bulus Bala Umar  says the Association would not fold it arms seeing imposter infiltrating the system.

Bulus said NMA is working will relevant security agencies to arrest and prosecute recalcitrant.

A Member while contributing faulted the state Ministry of for hand-in gloves in punishing offenders.

“As a member I faulted the Ministry of health for not doing it bidding by prosecuting offenders instead you will discover that a defaulter was arrested and his facility shutdown for just three days and after that he would be released.

“My complaint is on the issue of Dr. Paul who was served with warrant of arrest and today is walking freely “.

“I also know of a clinic along Shinge road which was close and instantly re-open for business”.

“NMA should do something especially on the ongoing litigation between two persons, a psychiatrist open a psychiatric clinic  with somebody’s license”.

Also another doctor expressed concerned over activities of traditional healers , calling on government  to ensure the regulation of such practice
