Why Nasarawa Police Command Is Under-Performing -Investigation

Shortage of personnel, lack of functional patrol vehicles, under funding and absence of allowances to the officers of the Nigerian Police, Nasarawa state command has been identified as major challenges militating against the performance of the police in the State.

An investigation revealed that the state is having short of personnel, an insider uncovered that the state command is having not more than 4,500 police officers manning the existing 30 out post in the state, as learnt the State command needs about additional 4,500 police men to fight crime and criminality in the state considering Nasarawa state sharing border with the nation’s capital, Abuja.

An Independent investigation revealed that for instance Jenkwe Development Area in Nasarawa has only one functional operation vehicle, the investigation also revealed that the gateway to the Federal Capital Territory, Karu is under-staffed and also lacks access to logistics to fight crime.

Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Idirisu Kennedy in an interview stated that the command is constrained due to shortage of manpower and logistics, stating further that the Nasarawa state government irked by the unfolding has refurbished 28 patrol vehicles with an aim of combating crimes in the state.

As the PPRO declined comment on the amount expended on the refurbished patrol vehicle, saying the effort was at the right direction to curb the rising spate of criminal activities in the state.

DSP Kennedy also declined comment on the monthly overhead given to the command by the state government instead he said the state government is doing the needful.

Other holistic support of the Nasarawa state government to the police, according to the spokeperson also includes the donation of a befitting office accommodation to the Nasarawa state command.

“That office accommodation is one of the best commands building in the 36 states, this single support would boost the morale of our men” said Idirisu Kennedy.
