The Nigeria Union of Journalists Nasarawa State Council has appealed to the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule to as a matter of urgency scrap all mushroom Schools existing in the state.
It called on the state government to address the proliferation of schools in the state in the interest of the generation yet unborn.
This was the decision of the state congress of the NUJ during its first congress of 2022, the union advised that all of such schools should be discarded.
NUJ insisted that mushroom schools were established for self-gain instead of educating pupils and children.
Members of the fourth estate of the realm after thorough deliberation, resolved with dismay the inhuman activities being recorded in private and public schools in the country,
Attributing it to lack of core values, negligence, and quick-to-make money syndrome which NUJ described as a major factor affecting the education sector.
It called on the state government to address the proliferation of schools in the country in the interest of the generation yet unborn.
Ahead of the 2023 election year, Journalists in the state have been challenged to project to limelight politicians with proven integrity to the electorate since the recruitment of leadership is a process that must be carefully and diligently pursued.
Congress noted that purposeful leadership is a catalyst for nation-building, thus journalists must be mindful of what the country needs at this moment.
The congress doffed its cap to members of the pen profession in the state for indulging in reportage that is reawakening the spirit of harmonious living and patriotism. However, the congress drew the attention of journalists in the state to beam their searchlight in the area of developmental and advocacy journalism to bring the plights of the downtrodden most especially the rural dwellers to the limelight.
Journalists in the state were once again challenged to operate within the ambit of the law and ethical values so as to sustain the dignity of the noble profession before the right-thinking members of the society.
Politicians and the general public are advised to support journalists to achieve the task of serving as a bridge between the government and the masses.
