The Nigeria Labour Congress, Nasarawa state wing has given the state Government one week ultimatum to ensure the complete payment of Local Government workers or the union would down tool, the state chairman of the NLC, Abdullahi Adeka has said.
Adeka threatened the state Government to either come to terms or paralysed Government activities, Saying the union was aggrieved following the stalemate reached, He expressed displeasure over the position of the state Governor not to augment the salary of the third tier of Government.
State would not exist without Local Government, and it is possible we will see, said the NLC that chairman that the Local Government has been on percentage of salary of Local Government, “We needed only N200m to augment workers salary he said.
The chairman of All Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) in a press briefing appealed to workers at the third tier to remain calm, Attributing the woos of Local Government to the present economic crunch as the brain behind the delay and payment of salary by percentage .
“We resolved that salary should be shared based on percentage instead of going for overdraft which incurred colossal interest.
As he said that 10% of May salary owed should be paid and the 80.3% of June salary be paid to workers”, The ALGON chairman, Suleiman Wambai has said.
The chairman further asserted that no state has yet received it bailout money as money, assuring that the bailout would be available by next week, He added.
The Special Assistant to the Governor, Ahmed Tukur exonerated the state Government from the lingering impasse surrounding the payment of workers salary at the Local Government.
He added, “Is purely a Local Government affair.”
