Nasarawa Ministry For Local Government To Investigate Unabated Sharp Practices

Peturbed over the ongoing sharp Practices in Nasarawa State Local Governments,the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs says management of the thirteen Council’s must submit the authentic list of workers before the access their January salary.

Hon.Haruna Osegba expressed worry over the presence of ghost workers in the payroll of the third tier of government.

The Commissioner hinted this during the Local Government Councils Joint Account meeting in Lafia.

The Commissioner disclosed that names of people who have retired from the Local Government service  collecting pension still appeared in payment vouchers.

“Is so boring that names of people who have left the service either through retirement, death, resignation or transfer of service that are still appearing in the PV of some Councils.

According to Osegba,”over 4, 000 people have left the service of the Local Government Education and Health Departments alone since 2011, yet the wage bill still remains N2. 1 billion,”

The Commissioner stated that the ministry will investigate the fraud going on at the third tier of government and threatened to deal with people involved in such act.

Osegba hinted that workers would collected full salary.

The Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria who is also the Council Chairman of Lafia Local Government, Aminu Maifata assured that authorities of the Councils will corporate with the ministry to address the ugly situation.

Maifata summited that anyone found to be responsible in the illegality should be sanctioned to serve as deterrent to those who may want to do so in the future.
