The decision of the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Nasarawa State to pay 100 salary to its workers is now a source of concern to the Ministry, this foist the Commissioner for Local Government, Hon.Haruna Osegba to borrow N300m from the bank
The decision to pay Local Government Workers in full who are paid on percentage since November,2015 would not be feasible due to paucity of funds ,this compelled the Local Government Joint Account Committee to empowered the Ministry for LG and Chieftaincy Affairs to borrow the sum of N300m.
The Members of Committee comprises of Chairmen of 13 Local Governments, Overseers of Development Areas and the Organised Labour respectively gave the approval during the committee meeting in Lafia.
The Chairman of Lafia Local Government who is also the Chairman Association of All Local Government, Mu’azu Maifata moved the motion for the approval of the said sum to enable salaries to be paid before election.
Haruna Osegba, the Commissioner while reacting said the Ministry Local Government Areas received a total sum of N1. 6 billion from the federal allocations and needed to source for N300 million to enable it pay full salaries.
He affirmed that with the approval salaries of workers at the third tier of government would be paid on or before Friday, 8, March.
Osegba tasked council Chairmen to work hard towards ensuring a hitch free March 9, Governorship and House Assembly elections in their respective areas
Further investigation unveiled that Local Government who was are owned over N13bn as salary arrears from November 2015 to November 2018.
