Nasarawa Govt Writes Police To Investigate Chairmen Of Doma, Karu And Toto LGAs Over Alleged Diversion Of Fertilizers

Nasarawa State Government has formally requested the assistance of the Nigeria Police to initiate an investigation into the alleged diversion of the free fertilizers provided by the Federal Government for distribution to deserving farmers in the State by the Chairmen of Doma, Karu and Toto Local Governments respectively.

In a letter addressed to the state Commissioner of Police, it noted that there were reports of irregularities and possible diversion of the said fertilizers meant for the benefit of farmers in the State. 

The letter signed by the Attorney-General of the State, Barrister Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, dated July 16th stated that “the alleged diversion is a serious matter that requires immediate attention to ensure that justice is served and the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions”.

In light of the gravity of these allegations, Magaji urged the Commissioner of Police to direct the Divisional Police Officers of Doma, Karu, and Toto to commence a thorough investigation into the matter. 

The investigation, the Attorney-General stressed should aim to uncover the truth, identify those responsible for any wrongdoing, and gather evidence to support potential prosecution. 

“I urge you to handle this matter with the utmost urgency and diligence to ensure that the integrity of the distribution process is upheld, and the interests of the farmers and the state are protected. Your prompt action in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

“I am confident in the professionalism and dedication of the Nasarawa State Police Command in carrying out this important task, and I trust that you will do everything within your power to ensure that justice is served.

“Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please keep me informed of any developments in the investigation,” the letter reads further. 

Governor Abdullahi Sule had on Monday July 08 commenced distribution of the fertilizers provided by the Federal Government to farmers at zero cost. 

The exercise commenced in Awe where he announced that no less than 16,000 bags had been allocated to the State for distribution to farmers across the 147 electoral wards of the State. 

Governor Sule added that the initiative was to boost production and ensure food security in the State.
