Nasarawa Govt/ Police Responsible For Continued incarceration Of 2 Monarchs—Migili Youths

Migili Youths Association has called on the Nigeria police to table an unreserved apology to Migili nation over the apprehension of two of their monarchs, Zhe Migili, Dr.Ayuba Agwadu and Zhe Duglu,Jonathan Gule Iwala ,The national president ,Emmanuel Zhebagu described the arrest as sacrilegious in the history of traditional institution.

“We condemned the arrest and detention of our first class chief, the Zhe Migili, Dr. Ayuba Agwadu Audu and the Zhe Duglu, Chief Jonathan Gule Iwala of second class status being nabbed by the police; The Association also bemoaned the police for arresting pregnant women, toddlers and the aged.

The National President of the association, Emmanuel Zhebagu, made the condemnation during a press briefing in Lafia, He equally condemned the apprehension of pregnant women, innocent civilians and under aged children by the security operatives.

The Association described the continued detention of the two paramount rulers as outrageous and highly condemnable and a gross transgression of the rights of those arrested, The estranged royal fathers were said to be arrested aftermath of a political skirmishes that erupted between followers of the ruling party, The All Progressives Congress and the opposition party, The People’s Democratic Party, The PDP.

Crisis ensued following a court of appeal verdict that upturned the election of Obi II in state House of Assembly constituency in favour of Honorable Amos Agyas of APC as against the current member Luka Jikaba of the PDP

We advised that such arrest of Migili traditional rulers should stop forth-with.He demanded that: “The pregnant women, under-aged children and innocent civilians should also be released.

“We call on the Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Legal Aid Council and other well meaning people of Nasarawa state to join us in the fight against these injustices that are against democratic norms.”

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Ismaila Numan,said the Police had finished its investigation and charged the matter to court, adding that the said traditional rulers are not in Police custody.

“The Police are not in custody of any traditional ruler. We finished our investigation and charged the case to court and they were remanded in prison custody,”

Further findings revealed that the power that be are alleging the involvement of the two Migili traditional rulers in the political skirmishes that lead to the destruction of houses and valuable worth thousands of naira, They were fingered as supporters of the opposition party, The PDP.
