Nasarawa Govt Abolishes Corporal Punishment In Public Schools, Suspends Principal, Others Over Brutal Flogging Of Female Students Of Govt Science School Nasarawa Eggon
The staffs of Government Science School, Nasarawa Eggon Local Government of Nasarawa state were suspended by the Commissioner of Education, Honorable Ahmed Aliyu Tijjani over what he referred to as corporal punishment.
The Commissioner in an exclusive interview with selected Journalists pointed out that the Principal of the school alongside; the Compound master and a class teacher were suspended over the brutal beating of female students for resuming late.
Hon.Tijjani said a committee has been constituted over the matter; he described the video clip that went viral as a total embarrassment to the state government.
“Corporal punishment is not permissible in our public schools from now henceforth”.
“If you watch the video you will understand what I mean, is completely cruelty to female students especially beaten on the back”.
“We suspended the Principal, Compound master and a teacher because the class teacher posted the video clip on net”.
An insider from the school when contacted revealed that the school has since reversed the anti-students policies of corporal punishment.
The Vice Principal, who is now overseeing the functions of the Principal, Umaru Kasimu decline comment, instead directed Journalists to the Area Inspectorate office.
Some of the affected students Joyce Joshua and Ugochukwu James in an interview ,Ugochukwu buttressed that she resume late due to the ongoing Fulani/Farmers skirmishes that in Benue state
“I tried to make contact in the school but to no avail, stressing the reasons why she resumes late”.
While commenting on the suspension of the Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Scholarship Board, Abdul Wahab Suleiman says investigation is still on.
Also while fielding questions from cross section of Journalists on the delay in the distribution of double bunk bed to boarding students says the beds would be distributed before the end of January.
