Nasarawa Government Moves To End NUT Strike Action

The recent move by the government of Nasarawa State to end the ongoing strike embarked by the Nigerian Union of Teachers may soon come to an end, the state commissioner for local government has said.

Hon.Aliyu Tijjani gave the disclosure during a press briefing with Journalists at the ministry for local government and chieftaincy affairs.

Hon.Tijjani said the state government has resolved to reverse the payment of teachers salary to Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) which he said was amongst the demand of the Nigerian Union of Teachers.

“The teachers have also agreed that their salary should be paid in full no matter what time it will take, stating that very soon NUT will resume soon, he added.

The commissioner further averred that the meeting has reached a fruitful agreement, he however maintained.

While responding on the No work, no pay of the state government, the commissioner said it was a slip of tongue and do not hold waters.

Tijjani said the NUT strike has no link with the present statewide organized labour strike, but the executive of the NUT declined comment on the meeting held at the ministry for local government.
