Nasarawa Commissioner Of Environment And Mining Condoles With Niger Government Over the Death of 37 Persons

The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Environment and Mining, Honorable Margaret Etake Elayo has consoled the families and people of Niger State over the demise of their loved ones who died during illegal mining around Wushishi in Niger State.

The Honorable Commissioner consoles the State Governor, Mohammed Umar Bago, for the loss of life due to activities of illegal miners in the State.

She stated this during a press briefing held at the State Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources and Mining. The Commissioner warned artisan miners to stay clear of the state. She reminded miners of the laws guiding mining activities in Nasarawa State.

She, however, reminded miners of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), which should be a guide for the operation of miners.

Speaking on the viral tape of underage miners, the Permanent Secretary of the ministry said the tape was snapped in Marhai community of Wamba Local Government Area of the state of the youth engaging in mining.

“Some people are intentionally doing that to destroy our community and state, just because a lot of youth are lacking safety gadgets for mining”.

“Water polluted with chemicals is circulated back to the ministry; this happened in Uke and Wamba LGC, and we should build.

We are having issues with parents who take their wards out of the dirty job, and they will go back and take their children back to the mining pits.
