Nasarawa Civil Servants Are The Highest Paid Workers-Accountant General

The Accountant General of Nasarawa State Musa Dadda’u has affirmed that Nasarawa state is ranked first state in payment of new minimum wage to its workforce, The A.G while reacting on the recent position of the President of Nigeria Labour Congress for the upward review of workers monthly package said vast of the existing States would collapse if the NLC Insisted on N56,000 minimum wage.

Dadda’u attributed the delayed in the payment of March salary to the Bank  verification Number conducted by the State Government,the accounting officer of the state further explained that the state Government got N1.9bn as March allocation, he however buttressed that about N300-N340m was augmented in March salary.

Monthly Wage Bill Is N2.3bn

“Our normal cash flow is N2.3bn,stating that only 50% of overhead were released to ministries,agencies,board and parastatals”,Saying the downward review of the workers’ salary became necessary.

Deductions From The Source

Musa Dadda’u affirmed that about N43m was deducted monthly from the N8.3bn bailout fund,he asserted that about N100 to N110m was generated as Pay As You Earn (PAYE) from workers’ salary at the state level while Local Government Civil servants generates about N30 to N40m monthly.

” We are missing a colossal amount of PAYE from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi with the ongoing indefinite strike embarked by the Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU).

We don’t have any unpaid bank loan if not the concessionary loan of N10bn,the Accountant General opined that 40% of the loan has since been paid .

Low Compliance To Payment Of IGR

The Accountant General attributed some of the challenges of IGR to the non-challant attitude of taxpayers,lack of enforcement by constituted authorities to tax/revenue collection in the state to absence of revenue or special court.

Appealing to the state House of Assembly to make a legislation on that would enhance Internally Generated Revenue,saying the legislation on IGR would go a long way in improving the revenue- based of the state.

Musa Dadda’u acknowledged that the state Government is making frantic steps to reintroduce revenue court or special court that would handle tax issue, saying the use of conventional court constitute a major constraint to tax and revenue collection.
