Nasarawa Assembly  Summons SSG, Education Commissioner, Permanent Secretaries Over N1bn Public School Projects

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly today Monday has Summoned the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Aliyu Tijjani to appear before the lawmakers over the abandoned N1bn meant for the renovation of schools when he held sway as the Commissioner of education.

 

The Chairman House committee on education, Hon.Daniel Ogazi expressed dissatisfaction over the condition of public schools in the State.

 

Ogazi said something urgent must be done to salvage the comatose condition of Government schools especially projects executed during the reign of the immediate past education Commissioner now,the Secretary to the State Government, Aliyu Tijjani.

 

The Committee Chairman explained that the condition of Government Secondary School,Mada station was in a deplorable situation and unless something is done to rescue our pupils and students.

 

“The contractors after collecting 100 percent of their contract sum abandoned site by removing all the roofs, window and door without any tangible commitment”.

 

He in addition averred that pupils and students are receiving lesson on bare floor as well exposed to rainfall and sunshine.

 

Hon.Danladi Jatau representing Kokona west while contributing expressed dismay over the condition of GSS Bassa which he buttressed is at verge of collapsing ,saying  the Nasarawa education is in a sorry state.

“What is happening in our schools is just like coronavirus infection”.

 

Hon.Muhammed Muluku in his contribution said the invitation of the former Commissioner is to give him an ample opportunity to explain what happened during his reign as Commissioner.

 

He said the invitation would serve as a deterrent to others.

 

Also speaking, Hon.Abel Bala representing Nasarawa Eggon  said the contractors handling the projects be invited.

 

Hon.Muhammed Alkali representing Lafia East constituency said those to be invited should alsshould also include accounting officers of the ministry.

 

Hon.Luka Gyekaba representing Obi 2 said urgent steps should be taken.

 

Hon.Omadefu said the education sector is in a state of comatose.

 

“The rot needed urgent attention”.

 

Hon.Suleiman Yakubu representing Awe South and Hon.Dr.Peter Akwe (Obi 1) described education as an industry and should be accorded utmost attention.

 

The Speaker of the Assembly,Hon.Balarabe Ibrahim lauded the Chairman of the Committee for his commitment, stating that the report of the committee on education thrown a serious challenge to other committees .

 

“As the representative of the people we must ensure deligence, calling on other committees to emulate Hon.Daniel Ogazi, appealing to other committees to remain upright.

 

Others invited are the State Commissioner of education, Fati Jimeta Sabo, the former and current Permanent Secretary of the ministry of education.
