Nasarawa Assembly sets to give NAYES more lifeline in 2025.

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has expressed it commitment to strengthen Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) to give it more lifeline.

This, the House said is in order to tackle youth restiveness and unemployment in the State via training and skills acquisition of the engaged NAYES operatives in the State.

Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House made the House commitment after Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development presented Report of the House Standing Committee on Youth and Sports on a Bill for a Law to Amend Nasarawa State Agency for Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES) and for Other Matters Connected Thereto during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the bill if scaled through, the engaged NAYES operatives shall be train on soft and hard skills for self reliance in the last year of their five years engagements.

The Speaker announced that the House will deliberate on the bill when the lawmakers return from recess.

He appreciated Hon. Isimbabi and his committee members for putting their efforts in submitting the report as expected.

Earlier, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi, the Chairman, House Committee on Youth and Sports Development while presenting the committee’s report said that the bill, if passed into law would enable the engaged NAYES to be self reliant after five years of their engagements.

“This bill if passed into law will give room for engaged NAYES operatives to train or be trained on soft skills and hard skills (Vocation) for self reliance in their last year of the five (5) years engagements.

“If the engaged NAYES operatives are trained in different skills, it would go a long way in boosting their standards of living and that of their family members.

“They will also become employers of labour since once if they acquired the skills, they will train others and the state will be better for it” he said.

He commended the Speaker and Honourable members for giving them the job.
“The Rt. Hon. Speaker and My respected colleagues, this committee wishes to express her gratitude for this task of studying the bill and reporting on same.

“It is our hope and desire that you will find the aforementioned recommendations useful towards passing the bill into law” he said.

It would be reported that the bill is a private member bill sponsored by Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, member representing Lafia Central Constituency.
