Nasarawa Assembly Passes Resolution On Dissolution Of Council Chairmen

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Tuesday  passed a resolution for the dissolution of Local chairmen in the state,The House unanimously resolved to terminate the term of office of elective office holders of eleven (11) out of thirteen (13) which expires 24/03/2016.

At the time of filling this report,The whole House resolved that the tenure elapse on 24/03/2016 ,all the lawmakers participated in the resolution which was not in favour of the estranged council chairmen.

The lawmakers said the resolution serves as a signal to the chief executive that council chairmen would not go beyond 24/03/2016 as stipulated by law

Barely forty eight (48 ) hours to the expiration of the tenure of elected Local Government chairmen in Nasarawa state has gone to court to challenge House of Assembly 2009 law seeking  for extension of additional one year bringing the tenure to three years as against the one year term of office.

Mixed feelings have continued to greet the widespread rumor over the attempt to seek for tenure extension,The rift surrounding the tenure of council chairmen in Nasarawa state continued to generate heat way back 2007 when Governor Aliyu Akwe Doma hells sway as the chief executive of the state.

The dust surrounding the upheaval over tenure extension is yet to settle,universalreporters247.com can authoritatively reveal that the majority of indigents of Nasarawa state are opposing the tenure elongation of council chairmen in the state, A director in one of the Local Government slashed the executive chairmen over the woo’s of the third tier of Government.

The chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) Hon.Suleiman Wambai when contacted on phone declined comment over the legal battle between the lawmakers and council chairmen of the affected eleven Local Government,As the chairman of Lafia Local Government said the matter is in a competent court of jurisdiction.

“I will not comment over the matter as the case is before a court of law,We the affected chairmen will accept the verdict of the court which may be against or in our favour” Said Wambai.
