Nasarawa APGA Chastises State Govt Over Threat To Sanction Striking Workers

Nasarawa State Chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance has chastised the state government over threat to sanction striking workers, Musa Saidu, the state chairman started to Newsmen in Lafia.

He said that workers have not done anything wrong by embarking on a lawful action to press home their demands.

According to him, the government owes workers arrears of August, 2016, percentage of November 2016 and February and March salaries.

He added that, the attitude of the government has brought untold hardship to workers because they cannot longer pay their children fees, rent, and medical bills among others.

Musa said asked whether the monthly FAAC was not received by the chief executive.

What happens to allocations from the federal government?

“If the state has been receiving monthly allocations so where is the money going to that they cannot pay workers their entitlements,” he added.

He explained that the state belong to all of us therefore civil servants are on contracts and having worked the government should fulfill its own part by paying them as at when due.

He added that workers are supposed to be paid their salaries to enable them invest in farming as farming season has already set in to complement their salaries.

He therefore called on members of the public to remain calm and support workers as the struggle is to guaranty a bride future of the people of the state.

The Nasarawa State government has threatened to deal with any staffs who fail to report to his or her duty post.

Thomas Ogiri, Nasarawa State Head of Civil Service, called on workers to disregard any call for strike saying that there is disarray in NLC.

He added that any staff that fails to report to his or her duty post would be held liable for his or her action.

He directed Permanent Secretaries, Chief Executives of Commissions, Boards and Parastatals to take attendance of their staff. He added that failure to comply with the directive and absenteeism would be treated as abscond.
