NANS UNIJOS Moves To End Cultism, Drug Abuse, Indecent Dressing And Campus Prostitution

The Executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students ,NANS has said ,the university of Jos Senate committee will soon stamp out cultism, prostitution, sexual harassment, including drug abuse, indecent dressing in campus.

The NANS President said it will collaborate with authorities of Nigerian higher institutions to curb out the menace in Nigeria tertiary institutions.

The Vice President special duties of the students association Comrade Felix Attah, made this known to Journalists on Tuesday in Jos, at the university of Jos, Nigeria.

The two days sensitization and public lecture was to eradicate anti-social -verses which is been perpetrated by students of tertiary institution s in the country.

The event with title “operation restores sanity on Campus” organized by the office of the Vice President special duties NANS.

Comrade Attach explained that the crusade will be taken to all campuses of Nigeria higher institutions to sensitize students on the negative effects on cultism, campus prostitution, and sexual harassment, drug abuse among students, indecent dressing and examination malpractice.

He reiterated that; “This crusade is first of its kind in the history of NANS, we intend to take this crusade to all higher institutions in Nigeria, NANS hopes to reposition attitude of students.”

Representative of the Plateau deputy governor Nuhu Dangyang, congratulated NANS for the initiatives, and admonished the students to support the present administration both at the national and state level to achieve it set goals, particularly revamping the educational sector.

Plateau deputy governor Prof Sonni Tyoden, inform that the APC led administration has place education as a priority in it agenda.

Speaking at the event, Vice chancellor academics of the University of Jos Prof Nelson Ochekpe, while delivering a lecture on effect of drug abuse, noted that most students who indulge in drug abuse do not graduate from schools.

Prof Ochekpe informed that 60 percent of substance abuses in Nigeria were mostly perpetrated in the northern Nigeria.

“Research has shown that 60 percent of substance abuses in Nigeria is mostly perpetrated in the northern Nigeria, particularly in Kano state, its not just among youth.”

The university Don cautions Nigeria students on the negative effect of substance abuses, according to him, it kills and makes lives of many miserable, therefore becomes liabilities to society.

On her part, Deputy Vice Chancellor administration also of the University of Jos, Prof Teresa Nmadu, who represented the Vice Chancellor Prof Sebastian Maimako, and gave a lecture on ills of “indecent dressing”, said inappropriate dress makes one losses respect in the society.

Prof Nmadu said inappropriate dressing gives negative impression about oneself; therefore urge students across Nigeria to be responsible people by their manner of attire they put on.

The representative of the VC said the idea of NANS VP special duties was incline with the objectives of the University of Jos in molding characters of students in becoming future leaders.

Earlier, the commander of the special taskforce on Jos crisis Major General Rogers Nicholas, in a good will massage said the event by NANS was timely, he urge Nigeria students to be prepare to takeover leadership in the future.

The taskforce commander commended students of the University of Jos for not have been involve in ill-verses in recent times.

“Most of the evil been perpetrated such as kidnapping, armed rubbery cultism across Nigeria involving students are from other universities, for the past seven months we have not heard of any evil act involving students of the university of Jos.”

The event was graced by a large number of NANS officials across Nigeria, students of the university of Jos and members of the public.
