NANS Elect New President

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has elected a New President to spear-head the affairs of the organization for the next one year. He is Comrade Chinonso Obasi, a Student of the Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki. Comrade Obasi was declared winner at the end of the NANS Convention held in Gombe State University over the weekend.

In his acceptance speech, the New NANS President said he was happy to witness the event and promised to bring to an end to the confusion which had trailed the process leading to his election, in what he described as the desperate attempt by some agent of the “State” to manipulate the process of electing the new leadership of the Association, in favor of an anointed candidate of a political party in the country. He further promised to ensure that the interests of Nigerian students are at all times paramount on his mind.

In his words, Comrade Obasi promised to return the NANS back to its original place of pride as a campus based Students organization with a promise to effect a radical change in the public perception of the organization.

“We will work assiduously towards achieving the objectives of the founding fathers of the organization, which is to ensure that the aspirations of Nigerian students are achieved and their interests protected. It is certainly a tortuous and demanding path that we have chosen, but we trust that God will grant us the courage to change the things we can, the fortitude to bear those we cannot and the wisdom to differentiate between them.” Obasi said.
