The Chairman of Jos united Muslim Council in Plateau state,Shelk Mukhtar Adams has challenged politicians ,Muslims community to cooperate fully with Law enforcement Agencies in curtailing, containing and eradicating to the barest minimum, the menace of rampant Drugs’ Consumption and Abuse by youths, and even adults, among the Muslim Ummah.
Shelk Adams stated this during the inauguration of committee held at the Jos Central Mosque on Sunday in Jos North LGA .
He disclosed that those politician seeking for elected offices or canvassing for the votes of Muslims community of embarking on projects that can touch the lives of the residents of the Muslim and also completing the abandon Jos Main market authority or their votes will be wash away inside the Delimi bridge.
Adams emphasized that this endeavour with the incorporation of other key components in the overall “War against the use of illicit drugs”, which includes Rehabilitation, Re-integration and ‘De-stigmatisation of victims can achieve positive impact .
According to him, In line with our common resolve, freely and voluntarily chosen and made, as ‘ Muslirn Ummah of ‘ Divergent Sectari’an and Ethnic Backgrounds, under the Mighty and All-Encompassing banner of the KALIMATU SHAHADA, and by the Abundant Mercies of Allah (SWT) and His Holy apostle (SAW) on one hand; and as Free, Adult, Citizens of Nigeria, deriving ‘our authority from the Constitution of Our Great Country of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,.
We the various and divergent Islamic Movements, Associations, Societies and Organisations have agreed to create for ourselves, a platform for the promotion and protection of our common interests in the performance of our religious duties and obligations as we understand them, and to the best of our human abilities.
He explained further that in conceiving the basic need for the formation of the 105 United Muslim Council G.U.M.C) it is envisaged to comprehensively gather, analyse, and proffer solutions to a number of societal ills, vices and leadership short-comings which include, but are not limited to the issue of Juvenile delinquency, especially as it relates to the issue of ALMAJIRI, in particular, and street begging in general.
Adams vowed that the Jos United Muslim Council is prepared to tackle the problems associated with Child labour, especially as it relates to under-aged Female Street Trading.
Adding that the challenges of Early non-consensual marriages, and the attendant Monash stain ability of marriages, leading to premature and rampant divorces is a serious concern to Muslim Council .
He cautioned that, ‘the need for the establishment of a machinery, and a sustainable process, which will lead to, and ensure the maintenance of interreligious harmony among the divergent Sectarian Persuasions of the Muslim Ummah, in general; and between Islamic Associations that happen to encounter and experience a disrapture in their interfaiths relationships’.
Mukhtar Adams noted the need for the establishment of a functional organ of the Council, charged with the responsibility of creating a conducive environment and Platform for sustainable harmony between Muslim Ummah of other , on one hand, and adherents of other religious and faiths, on the other hand.
He pointed out that there is need to Participate maximally, in all efforts aimed at creating and/or establishing communal associations and movements which will enhance and complement the efforts of the country’s security agencies, towards community policing.
Adams said ,this is the common effort of ensuring the safety and protection of life and property of every citizen, irrespective of secondary considerations related to Faiths, Ethnicity; Status and/or any other primordial factors.
The need to set in motion a substantive organ of the council, charged to ARBITRATE on Issues and Situations ,of Conflict, which do not necessarily require or warrant resort to litigation, in line with the recommendations and Injunctions of the religion of Islam, as is the practice in other parts of the modern world ,he stated .
The need to make meaningful and objective contributions in the processes which normally lead to the emergence of POLITICAL CANDIDATES, who will represent and defend the interests of the ‘Community at all levels of governance, when the situation arises.
The J.U.M.C will insist on the evolvement and application of Fair, Transparent and Acceptable methods, which will eradicate and address previous lapses and inconsistencies associated with the (l) Flowing from the above premise (1) we wish to make it abundantly clear and known, to all and sundry that with effect from the 10″“ day of December of the year 2018 (Equivalent of 3ml Rabiu Athani 1440) having widely and effectively consulted among ourselves, and mutually agreed on the need and requirement to do so, let it be known that we have mandated ourselves, in the exercise of our Fundamental Rights to Freedom of Association, to create for ourselves a comprehensive platform, structured and organized in such a manner and style as to accommodate the Divergent Sectarian Interests of each and everyone of its Constituent Components (in the form of the various Organisations, Associations and Societies etc as shown above) which have subscribed to the Ideals and Values of this new Platform/Movement, to be known and addressed as the 103 UNITED MUSLIM COUNCIL, as equal .
That we are fully conscious and aware of the existence of a body that calls and parades itself as the ULAMA/ELDERS COUNCIL, whose membership we do not subscribe to, and whose authority we do not recognize, in anyway, shape or form, as the “Umbrella body” that encompasses and caters for the interests of Muslims 105” in particular. or those of Plateau State, in general, as they often pretentiously claim to be, over the last several years.
