Mpkuru Mmiri: Ohanaeze  Ndi-Igbo Youth Wing Inaugurates Taskforce

The National Executive Committee of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Worldwide-Youth Wing in a meeting held at the Eudora Hall, Iwuanyanwu Glass House, Owerri on Friday 19th November 2021, the Acting Leader, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, in line with the mandate of the majority of NEC set up two committees;

 

1. THE SPECIAL TASK FORCE/SENSITIZATION COMMITTEE AGAINST DISTRIBUTION, CONSUMPTION AND PEDDLING OF MKPURU MMIRI, GUZORO AND OTHER HARMFUL DRUGS

 

After exhaustive deliberations on the dangers posed by the consumption of Mkpuru Mmiri by our youths, the NEC unanimously endorsed the need to set up a national task force/ sensitization committee, with the following terms of Reference;

 

1. To carry out far-reaching sensitization campaigns across the length and breadth of Igbo land, using the mass media and through seminars and road walks in all the nooks and crannies of Igbo land, with the aim to enlighten members of the public, especially; youths, parents, teachers, guardians, community vigilantes, and all relevant stakeholders on the dangers, attributes and distribution channels of these illicit and invidious substances.

 

1. To liaise with relevant security agencies, especially, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, towards eradicating the production, distribution and peddling of these harmful substances anywhere in Igbo land.

 

iii. To provide civil assistance to Law Enforcement agents in ridding Ala Igbo of the menace of these drugs.

 

1. To partner with other youth organizations in Igbo land towards eradicating the menace of this abuse in our land

2. COMMITTEE FOR THE CONDUCT OF A BYE ELECTION TO FILL THE VACANT POSITION OF NATIONAL YOUTH LEADER

 

Following the submission of the report by the Investigative Committee on the suspended National Leader and adoption of its findings and recommendations by all members of the National Executive Committee present at our last NEC meeting held in Awka, the Acting Leader, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones constituted an Electoral Committee to conduct a bye election to fill the vacant position of the National Leader. This followed a rejection of a last-ditch Apology Letter and pleas for reinstatement by Engineer Damian Okafor. A simple majority of 12 voted against his reinstatement against 11 who voted for.

 

The Electoral Committee has the following terms of Reference:

 

1. To issue guidelines in line with the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, for the conduct of a bye election, as long as such guideline prevents contestants from other States other than Ebonyi from presenting candidates for the election.

 

1. To liaise with the Parent Body for logistics and guidance towards conducting a free and fair bye election.

 

iii. To do all those things, as long as they conform with the Constitution of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, towards ensuring a free, fair and transparent bye election.

 

The Committee is constituted as follows;

The Acting Leader wishes all Committee members well in the discharge of these responsibilities and urged them to consider the interest of Igbo youths paramount in all they do.

 

The apex Igbo youth leadership also reiterated its call for the federal government to explore ways towards reaching a political resolution on the ongoing trial of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and other Igbo youths detained in connection with their involvement in agitation for justice and equity in Nigeria.
