Mixed Reactions Trail Gov. Badaru’s Appointments, As Appointees Reject Appointment

Umar faruq usman

There were mixed reactions from both the APC and the opposition PDP members over the recent appointments made by the Jigawa state governor Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar especially for that of special assistants and the recent submission of names of commissioners for screening to the state assembly.

Trouble started shortly after the announcement of names of special assistants early last week, as most of the people, including APC members, supporters and chieftains vehemently kicked against the appointment as they described the appointments as incompetent and incapacitated to manage their respective post of duties.

It was gathered that politicians like Alhaji Hadi Ukashatu a former accountant general during former Saminu Turaki’s regime was given appointment as chairman of Board of Internal Revenue, a position he rejected and wrote to the state government saying Thank you.

A source close to Hadi Ukashatu said the government of Badaru deliberately offered him this appointment in a fringe organization, saying Jigawa lacks commercials activities that will generate revenue. “They want to see his failure and starts to blame him, that’s why he turned down the offer,” The source narrated.

Another politician who rejected his appointment was the former council chairman, former PDP and ACN chairman, Alto Usman Roni and one of the Lamido’s  loyalists who later suffered betrayal, he was  appointed as a permanent member with the Judicial service commission, according to a source close to Alto, the government promised to compensate him commissionership for delivering his constituency in the last elections despite PDP heavyweights in the area.

Our reporter gathered that even the National Association of Jigawa State (NAJISS) has petitioned the governor for appointing an expelled and incompetent hand as special assistant to the governor on student matters. Abubakar Babangida Hadejia described the appointment as unsuitable and not too good calling on the state government to reverse the appointment to appropriate person for the progress of the association and the education of Jigawa citizenry.

It was learnt that both the APC and PDP chieftain have engaged in verbal exchange of words through broadcast media houses faulting the governor on the not too good appointments, saying most of the appointees are former governor Saminu Turaki loyalists.

Our sources said that, the recent submission of commissioners’ nominees to the state assembly for screening are purely from the camp of former governor Saminu Turaki who held various positions ranging from council’s chairmen, commissioners and members of the state and National Assembly.
